Jacob has been fantastic to work with. He is incredibly patient, always responsive, and made what initially felt like a daunting process so much easier. He explains everything clearly and thoroughly, making the whole process straightforward and stress-free. I wouldn't hesitate to use Expat Tax Solutions again and would highly recommend Jacob to anyone looking for expert tax advice and a truly professional service.
Jacob handled my UK tax residency assessment and 2025/26 return. Straightforward the whole way through. He was quick to respond, explained the tricky bits about being a non-resident with a US company clearly, and got everything filed without any hassle. Happy to recommend.
" I have been really impressed with Jacob - his personable manner, knowledge and ability to explain complex issues in simple terms is invaluable. Would 100% recommend if you are looking for an advisor who feels like he has your best interests at heart and you can speak honestly to - this is distinct compared with a large firm where you are just another client. "
I came to Jacob needing clarity on my UK tax residence position for 2026-27, and the experience was first class. He prepared a detailed advisory memo that walked me through my residence analysis step by step, and what really stood out was how clearly everything was explained. Tax residence rules can feel daunting, especially as somebody with not much knowledge in this area, but Jacob made the reasoning easy to follow. His communication was prompt and professional throughout. He took the time to understand my specific circumstances, set out realistic expectations, and produced written advice that was thorough, well-structured, and genuinely actionable. I never had to chase him for anything. I felt completely confident that my situation was in capable hands. If you're an expat or anyone dealing with a UK tax residence question, I'd recommend Expat Tax Solutions without hesitation. Thanks, Jacob!
" I had an excellent experience working with Jacob and would highly recommend his services. What impressed me most was the speed of his communication, both by email and over the phone. He was always prompt, transparent, and clear in his advice. His knowledge and experience, particularly regarding double tax treaties and foreign income disclosures, gave me great confidence that my case was in capable hands. Overall, his expertise, professionalism, and excellent communication made what was a very stressful situation much easier to manage. I would 100% recommend him to anyone looking for an experienced, trustworthy, and effective tax advisor. "
" Jacob is fast, structured, and deterministic. He responds quickly, gives clear and definitive answers where the law allows, and doesn't hide behind vague replies. He knew the expat and non-resident space cold — no need to "look into it later." The written advisory memo was clear and actionable, and the tax return was prepared and filed efficiently with minimal back-and-forth. If you're a non-resident, digital nomad, or expat dealing with a complex tax situation, I'd strongly recommend Jacob. He's exactly the kind of advisor you want in your corner. "
" Jacob was extremely helpful in guiding me through an issue with an unexpected tax balance shown on HMRC. His communication skills are excellent, and he was always supportive and responsive. He genuinely helped reduce my stress around tax matters by breaking things down in a very clear and reassuring way. I really appreciate his help and would highly recommend him. "
" I needed to navigate UK tax and do a self-assessment for the first time after moving abroad mid-way through the tax year. He gave me better guidance (preventing me from making mistakes), and from there, the process was simple as can be. Jacob's knowledge and manner were incredibly reassuring. I would absolutely recommend Expat Solutions. "
" Jacob is not only a top-notch tax professional, he's also a genuinely 'nice guy' who goes well beyond just completing a tax return. He thoroughly guided me through my options, and offered valuable advice for planning my next tax year. I highly recommend him! "

When moving to the UK, it’s important to get advice on your UK tax residency status and your exposure to UK tax on your worldwide income and gains. As a new UK tax resident, you may be eligible for the Foreign Income and Gains (FIG) Regime or relief under a Double Taxation Agreement.
As a UK tax resident, you are taxable in the UK on your worldwide income and gains; however, you may be eligible to exempt your foreign income and gains under the FIG Regime. Nevertheless, you will still be required to declare your foreign income and gains on your Self Assessment tax return.
Not all individuals are required to file UK tax returns, and this will typically only be the case if you have untaxed income on which UK tax is due, or if you want to claim exemptions and reliefs. If you are required to file, you must register for Self Assessment by 5 October following the end of the tax year and file your return by 31 January following the end of the tax year.
If your income is taxable in the UK and another country, you may be eligible for double taxation relief via a Double Taxation Agreement (DTA). This depends on the nature of the income and whether the UK has a DTA with the country in question.
